In 2009, the FCCW Board decided to have a statewide project for all the diocesan members to support. The subject of homeless families was discussed. It was decided that because there was a homeless issue in every part of the state, the plight of the homeless would be our project. At first, the project was to take place during Valentine week, thus came the idea to use “HUGS” candies as a thank you for donations. The time frame now includes the months of November through February 14th. 

The main objective was not just to raise money but to raise awareness of the problem at the local level. Each year all the CCW members hold events in their respective parishes. Some affiliations solicit donations from their parishioners while others hold events such as dinners, fashion shows, bake sales. etc. The money is sent to FCCW.  The monies are then divided between the 7 dioceses evenly. The amount of money collected has grown each year, with the last few years totals being between $55,000 and $66,000.
